Digestive disorders are one of the most common illnesses afflicting men and women of all ages. The renovation / expansion of the state-of-the-art Brookdale Digestive Health Center avails to the members of the community such services as: colonoscopy screening for colon cancer, an endoscopy suite which will also provide wireless capsule endoscopy for evaluation of the small intestine, ERCP, motility studies, and malabsorption testing. In addition, the Center has a liver service where patients with liver disease are evaluated and offered therapy for hepatitis B & C, and for liver transplant referral.
Brookdale Hospital recognized that it needed to keep pace with technological advancements in this field. As such we have expanded and renovated our endoscopy area to include 3 dedicated suites. The 3rd room is fitted to accommodate ERCP procedures, which is an image guided procedure requiring fluoroscopy. The new space allows for seamless flow for patients providing them with much needed added comfort and privacy. The service has also committed to provide state of the art wireless endoscopy for evaluation of the small intestine, motility studies, and malabsorption testing. We are currently staffed with 2 full time and 2 part time attendants.
We also share a fellowship program with our affiliate SUNY Downstate. The GI division accommodates a full consult service to the inpatient units and clinic service. Lastly, beginning in 2008 we are partnering with NYCDOH to provide a patient navigator program, which will assist patients from through the gamut (scheduling to post procedure) focusing on the colorectal screening program. We are very excited of our new advancements and hope to continue to meet the needs of the community with a comprehensive GI service.
